Our Institutes

At Boston Business School, several key domains of management development coalesce around the BBS Institutes to form a wellspring of practice-relevant experience and competence for the benefit of our clients, both companies and participants.

The goal of the Institutes is to observe developments in research, teaching and practice and to provide access to the latest discoveries in their specific domain for Boston Business School clients.

When teaching, all the Institutes are committed to a strong practical approach, and give our participants the possibility to develop a high level of specialist knowledge, to acquire problem solving skills, to train their teamwork abilities, and refine their presentation techniques.

When it comes to management consulting, the BBS Institutes help companies to improve performance by analyzing the existing business problems using their specialized expertise, and if required, the expertise of other institutes. The Institutes help create sustainable value using state-of-the-art analytical techniques, strategy development based on industry-specific knowledge, and successfully management of change and implementation.

Each Institute is charged with the task of research according to the needs BBS clients. They provide scientific and applied research in order for firms to make informed decisions and solve real business problems. Additionally, Institute research provides valuable input for BBS seminars and programs where tested management knowledge is combined with current concepts of results-oriented leadership.

Additionally, all Institutes have something in common: they are all lead by outstanding people, who put their rich knowledge at the disposal of Boston Business School and its clients.

Institute for Strategic Management BBS

The Strategy Institute BBS is led by Ulrich Grothe. Ulrich Grothe was responsible for the corporate strategy of an international company for several years. As the director of a mid-sized company, he developed new business models with great market success. He has a wide background as a business consultant. For one of the large American consulting companies, he developed new approaches for the consulting business and was in charge of international strategy projects.

Institute for Marketing Management BBS

Patrick K. Magyar leads the Marketing Management Institute of the Boston Business School. He was managing direct of FIFA Marketing AG, where he was in this capacity responsible for placing the entire range of sponsoring packages for the World Cup 2006 in Germany. Amongst his publications, the prize-winning best-seller “Marketing Pioneers: International Marketing Hits of Daring Entrepreneurs” (1987,1990, 1992, 1994) stands out.

Institute for International Business & Marketing BBS

Professor Dr. Waldemar Pförtsch is director of the Institute for International Business and Marketing. He is one of the leading authorities of this domain, in research, teaching as well as consulting. The experience, which he brings to the table, he acquired whilst working for large companies in Germany and the US. He refined his approach led to international consulting contracts. Today, his area of expertise comprises, aside from the US and German-speaking Europe, China and Japan.

Institute for Innovation Management & Competitiveness BBS

Head of the Institute for Innovation-Management and Competitiveness is Dr. Marcus Disselkamp. His integrated approach to research and practical development for innovation management is a product of Dr. Disselkamp’s many years of management and consulting experience for numerous innovation projects in various industries and countries, including the USA. This uniquely allows Dr. Disselkamp to act as a sparring partner for CEOs and corporate boards.

Institute for Personal Development BBS

Martin Salzwedel studied pedagogy and completed an artistic program as a cellist. He has worked for 8 years as public relations direct and chief operating officer for an American consulting firm for communication, negotiation, and distribution. His current specialties as an instructor, consultant and coach, include the global coaching and training of executives in seminars with an emphasis on communication in leadership, negotiation, distribution, intercultural competence and personal development.

Institute for Financial Management & Corporate Governance BBS

Osama Rifai is director of the Institute for Financial Management and Corporate Governance at Boston Business School. His approach to research, teaching, project implementation, capital market financing, restructuring, M&A, emphasizes not only specialist knowledge and tools, but also having the proper communication abilities and channels in place. He has been active for many years as senior advisor to many companies in the industrial and banking sectors.

Institute for Strategic Entreprenuership & Business Development BBS

Dr. Andreas Bürgin is head of the Institute for Strategic Entrepreneurship and Business Development BBS of Boston Business School. He has many years of practical experience in leading positions, in both a national and international environment. He himself is an entrepreneur, as owner and board member of several SMEs. Moreover, he is also lecturer for integrated business management, new business development, and innovation and technology management at different educational institutions.

Institute for Business Process Management BBS

Wolfgang Bierer is director of the Institute for Business Process Management of the Boston Business School. As instructor and consultant, his specialties are in business process optimization and strategic business process management. For a large German consulting firm, he was responsible for the methodological development of business process strategy. Wolfgang Bierer possesses broad international project experience. Among his countries of expertise are Japan, Korea, and China.

Institute for Entrepreneurship & Innovation Management BBS

The Institute for Entrepreneurship & Innovation Management BBS is headed by Professor Dr. Horst Geschka. Horst Geschka has been dealing with R&D and innovation management since the 60’s; he is the Dr.-Otto-Röhm chair for business establishment at the TU Darmstadt. He is founding chairman and member of the executive board of the “Society for Creativity, e.V.”, one of Germany’s leading think tanks for creativity.
